If you’ve weighed all the options, made a plan, developed ideas, and decided it’s time to start a blog there are really only three things you need to do:

  1. Pick your blogging platform.
  2. Sign up for a blog.
  3. Write your first post.

None of these steps require you to make an investment. They are all free. At this point, your only investment is your time.

They key to setting up your free blog will be to prepare it for scaling up. At first, you’ll use all the basic options. As you select these options, consider how you will scale up by modifying the design of the blog or adding your own domain name.

There are a variety of blogging platforms available for you to use. These platforms will host your blog for free.

Some of these platforms include:Blog

One catch to using their free services is that your domain name will most likely be something like For instance, if you decide to use a WordPress blog, it would look something like:

Another item you should be aware of – your blog will have to use the logo of the blogging platform on each of its pages. For example, on a free WordPress hosted blog, their logo will appear at the bottom of each page. WordPress will give you options of several versions of their logo to select.

While you may someday want to consider buying your own domain name, not having one at first is okay. This gives you an opportunity to learn the art of blogging. Plus, you can develop an archive of blog posts that will give you credibility when you do scale up to owning a domain name.

If you already own your own domain name and want to add a blog feature to your site, chances are, this should be easy. WordPress websites come equipped for blog posts. Opening a blog on your site powered by WordPress is only a few clicks away.

Don’t forget you can get two free websites when you join Wealthy Affiliate as a free member.  It’s what I would recommend. Click the link below to find out more.

Happy bloggingIf you are using a blogging platform, they take you through the blog set-up process step-by-step. You don’t need to be a whiz or tech geek. For instance, early in your set-up process you will be offered a selection of free designs or templates for the blog. This is a great feature because you won’t have to worry about buying a design (unless you want to) or knowing code to install it. The blogging platform does it all for you.

Get ready to feel a real sense of pride when you publish your first post! It’s a big deal. Give it a try and happy blogging!

Very informative and friendly article you have shared today, this should motivate others who have the desire for their own blog to get started without investing anything but their time.

What is this wealthy affiliate program all about ,why would I receive two free websites just by joining this program?

      Hello Jeffrey

Thanks for visiting my website and for your kind comment.

Two free websites are one of the perks of becoming free member of Wealthy Affiliate. It was one of the things that drew me to the site in the first place.

Hi Jackie, I do agree that nowadays starting a blog has become technically very easy, compared to the past, and I can’t think of a better place than WealthyAffiliate to host one. Do you know what my biggest problem was, when I started mine? Picking the right theme. With so much choice, it felt like a nightmare, although eventually I was really satisfied with my choice. Was it an easy task for you? Just curious… 🙂

      Hi Sergio

I was exactly the same and spent ages looking for a theme that I thought would work. It took ages for me to realise I was concentrating on the worng thing and needed content on my site before looking for a theme.

I’ve had my site for more than 3 years now and have to admit that in the end I decided to change to a premium theme and use Divi from Elegant Themes for all my sites.

Of course, this isn’t to say that you can’t find a free theme that is perfect for your needs.

      Thanks for the comment
