Keywords! You either lov’em or hate’em!!
If you are using SEO to drive traffic to your website then keywords are something you need to get your head around and become and expert at how to find the best keywords for SEO.
What are Keywords
It is the keywords that help people to find your site via search engines such as Google. They are the words put into the search boxes of the search engines to help people to find the websites with the information needed. Using optimized keywords helps Google to find your content and show it to those searching for similar content.
Keywords are the fundamental element of Search Engine Optimization
The skill finding and using keywords is to attract visitors to your site knowing what they are looking for and the problems they are having at the same time as making it as easy as possible for them to find you.
If you don’t find the time to do your keyword research you can bet your life your competitors will be researching and their website will rank higher in the search engines therefore gaining more of the visitors and potential customers.
When you go to Google and type in a word or phrase of something you are searching for, you have in essence written a keyword. It is these keywords you need to research to find those words and phrases people are using in their searches.
As you can see from the image above Google make it easy for you to look for alternative keyword by giving you a list of the most popular terms. This is a service called Google Instant and is well worth using when researching keywords.
There is an excellent way to use this service for keyword research called ‘Alphabet Soup’ I use this all the time and if you want to find out more then you can access some training here.
Using A Keyword Research Tool To Find Keywords.
Using Google Instant is a great way to come up with some great keywords but you need to have more information at your fingertips if you are to climb up the search engine rankings.
This is where a Keyword Research comes into its own. Here are some examples you may like to check out.
Jaaxy my personal favourite.
When you have found some keywords you’ll need to input them into one of the keyword research tools to find out as much information about the quality of the keywords.
I use Jaaxy and have done for 5 years so it is the one I’m using to demonstrate how this works.
In the search bar you type the keyword you are interested in using, click enter and watch as the data appears. Not only do you get your keyword but also other connotations to help you find the best keyword for SEO as you can see in the image below
Ideally you want to look for keywords with an Avg (The average number of searches the keyword receives per month) of more than 30 and a QSR (Quoted Search Results – the number of competing website ranked in google for this exact keyword) should be less that 100 for a new website or less than 200 for an established site.
In Jaaxy you can save the best keywords in a list for use on your website. This means you’ll have a never ending source of content.
In the box below you can give Jaaxy a try by inserting a keyword in the box below and seeing the results.
var jtrack = “f77465bb”;
As keywords are the basis for your SEO it is worth all the time spent on refining the process and coming up with the best keywords possible.
You do not need to target a keyword on any given page or post to get it to rank in the search engines but they sure do help
Keyword density is a thing of the past. If your keyword appears in the relevant area it will be fine.
You do not want to put your keywords into the keywords Meta tag under the WordPress editor as this will give you no advantage in the search engines.
Keywords can be anywhere in the title and still be just as effective when it comes to rankings.
Every page or post must have a target keyword in order to rank in the Google or other search engines.
Your website page or post needs a percentage of keyword to get high Google rankings.
Putting keywords in the keyword Meta tag will get better rankings.
