Web traffic is a term used to define the total number of people who visit a website at any particular time. This is usually used as an indicator of how popular a website is. Websites with high web traffic are deemed to be more popular.

As a website owner, getting high web traffic for your website should always be among your top priorities. This is because your website’s traffic will directly determine how much revenue you will be earning from it. High web traffic exposes your business to more potential customers which can translate to better sales. Advertisers are also more willing to pay more when placing their ads on websites that have high web traffic since they are assured of greater visibility for their ads.

What this means in a nutshell is that the traffic your website receives is directly responsible for its success. How to increase web traffic to your website

New website owners encounter difficulty in gaining loyal visitors and they often end up with wonderful websites that no one seems to notice several months after launch. So what do you have to do to get visitors trickling into your website?

Your website might not be getting much attention due to the fact that no one other than yourself even knows of its existence. Another reason may be that your website is not only shabbily designed but also contains bland content. In this article, you will discover some easy ways of increasing traffic to your website to help you kick-start your online business.

The options for boosting web traffic include free and paid methods. The free methods can be useful for anyone who is still testing the waters and doesn’t want to commit too many resources until they are sure. Free methods usually take more time before they bear fruit but on the long run they can be just as effective in bringing in traffic as the paid methods.

1. Create A User-Friendly Website

Visitors who have a pleasant first-time experience on your website are more likely to come back in the future.

The first step in ensuring a positive experience for each new visitor is making your website or blog user-friendly. It is common for new website owners to invest too time on the graphical attributes of their website with little consideration for its functionality. This can result in a flashy website that is a bewildering maze of menus and presentations where users experience difficulty navigating through.

It is not a bad idea at all to create a lively user interface for your website, as long you don’t overdo it.

2. Provide Great Content

Another way of enhancing the user experience for your website is filing it with engaging content.

Take your time and create well-written informative posts for your readers and the visitor traffic will gradually grow. While doing this, also
ensure that all the material you upload is relevant to your website’s specific niche. For example if you have a website that primarily reviews cooking appliances and you suddenly decide to post random articles about motor vehicles, your website may end up losing some loyal readers who have little interest in anything that isn’t cooking-related.

3. Promote Your Website On Social MediaHow to increase web traffic to your website

Social media is one of the most powerful marketing tools in today’s world. More than half of the world’s population is signed up to at least one social media network and anything shared on these platforms is immediately visible to several people across the world.

To promote your website on social media, you will first need to create accounts and pages for your website on popular networking platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. You should then regularly share engaging posts and updates relevant to whatever your website deals in and include links that direct readers to your website. These pages will gradually gain likes and follows from people interested in whatever your website has to offer and the same people will definitely visit your website from time to time.

4. Use Search Engine Optimization

Many people using the internet to do their shopping and access information don’t have a specific website in mind when doing this. They instead type whatever they are searching for on search engines and click on any of the first few links that come up in the results. The websites that conveniently appear among the top search results usually end up drawing in most of the traffic relating to whatever item or service is being searched for. Thankfully, you can use an ingenious technique called search engine optimization (SEO) to ensure that your website always appears among the top search results.

To understand the concept of SEO, you first need to be aware of how online search engines work. When someone types a set of words or a phrase on a search engine such as Google, the engine uses an algorithm to scan all websites to find the ones where the set of words searched for appear. The search results then list the websites where the searched words appear most frequently among the top resultsHow to increase web traffic to your website

To ensure that your website consistently appears among the top search results for a certain product or service, you will therefore have to include the most frequently searched words into your articles as many times as possible. For example, if your website does smartphone reviews, you could note that people seeking information about the latest smartphones typically type est smartphone reviews’ on their search engines. You can then proceed to include this phrase several times in all articles you post on your website. This will ensure that every time someone searches for the best smartphone reviews, your website will appear among the top search results.

5. Sign Up For Pay Per Click Advertising

Unlike the methods listed above which are all free, PPC advertising is a paid method of increasing web traffic.

PPC advertising is offered by search engines such as Google and Bing, with Google Adwords being the most popular PPC program. This method involves placing advertisements for your website on the top of the search results whenever an internet user makes a relevant search or placing advertisements on other websites that partner with the search engine. For example if your website offers gardening advice, it will appear among the top results any time someone searches for gardening tips. Your website will also be advertised on the pages of other websites where anyone who might potentially be interested in gardening tips can be found.

To enjoy this service, you will need to pay a fee which is calculated based on several factors including how frequently you would like your website to be advertised and the target population. PPC advertising is arguably the fastest and most effective method of increasing traffic to your website and anyone who doesn’t mind spending a little money to get the visitors trickling in should definitely give it a shot.

Thank you for the detailed article on how to increase web traffic to the website. I see you also suggest using Pay per Click but to do that – some money is needed. Could you please advise on the amount of budget required to run a PPC campaign? Or how could I calculate it by my self? Have you tried PPC yourself? Is it possible also not to make any money when using PPC?

    • Jackie

      Hello Arta

      Thank you for your comment.

It is possible to make money using free methods of gaining traffic but if you want to increase the speed of getting that traffic then paid methods are the way to go.

It is relatively inexpensive to give this a go and I would always recommend starting off low and increasing your spending once you begin to see results.

Great article on driving traffic to your site. I own a local SEO agency in California and I can say you hit the nail on the head. It all starts with a user-friendly website with great content. You have to have that foundation first before you can start the SEO stuff. Thanks for making it so clear!

    • Jackie

      Hi Vic

Thanks for stopping by and for your kind words.  Good luck with your business.

  3. Ty Hook

I enjoyed your article. You mentioned that Adsense is the most popular PPC. What are some of the other ones out there? Also, would I need seperate PPC programs for Bing, Google… Or do you suggest using more than one PPC provider?

Currently I do not use PPC, but I am thinking about trying it.

    • Jackie

      Hello Ty

I would suggest you tackle one program at a time.  If it works for you that’s great and if not put it to the side and try another.  This way you can build up your own uniques set of programs which work for your business.

Great tips buddy! I’ve always had a problem to juggle between mashing my site flashy with beautiful homepage and easy to access menus. Looks like I’ll go for the user experience based on your recommendation here. By the way, I’ve read that word count also plays a huge role in Google ranking. What do you think about this? Do you have any minimum words for your site post?

    • Jackie

      Hello Isaac

      Thanks for your comment.

Although I usually go for about 1,000 words in my posts I also believe that quality is more important that quantity.  Giving value to your readers is your main priority, in my opinion.

This was a really good detailed article. I am improving on my keywords i know im starting to get some of my posts on google and i have a long way to go. I did publish my first ebook because i want to get an email list going and offer it for free to them. There is so much that can be done with affiliate marketing , i have 2 websites and my second website is kind of harder to find good keywords to write them posts so i got to try to be more creative.

    • Jackie

      Hey Justin,

Congratulations on publishing your first ebook.  Getting your email list up and running is a great way forward.  I don’t know how long you have had your websites but I would always recommend having one to begin with and getting it up and running and making money before going on to another site.
